Number of Employees in Urban Entities in the First Quarter of This Year Rose Continuously, Wages from Labor Grew Fast.

    In the first quarter of this year, the number of employees in the urban entities increased continuously, the total remuneration for laborers and the average wage further went up.

    1. At the end of the first quarter of this year, the number of laborers in the urban entities totaled 109.723 million persons, a year-on-year rise of 1.473 million persons and showing the first rise in the first quarter since 1996. Specifically speaking, that in the primary industry was 4649 thousand persons, down by 228,000 persons; that in the secondary industry was 46.054 million persons, up by 1.152 million persons; that in the tertiary industry was 59.021 million persons, up by 549 thousand persons.

    Analyzed by industry, among the 19 national economic major classes, there are 14 industries the employees of which went up year on year. Among those industries, the employees in the manufacturing, public administration and social organizations, education, leasing and commercial services rose by 916000, 359000, 209000 and 135000 persons. Among the five industries with the decline of employees, the number of employees in the wholesale & retail trade and farming, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery went down by 484000 and 228000 persons respectively.

    Analyzed by ownership type, the number of employees in the state-owned entities reached 66.49 million persons, a year-on-year decline of 1802 thousand persons; that in the collective-owned entities registered 8624 thousand persons, declining by 1104 thousand persons; that in other economic entities was 34.61 million persons, up by 4.38 million persons. And the number of employees in the non-private entities totaled 78.494 million persons, a year-on-year decline of 2.584 million persons; that in the private entities reached 31.23 million persons, up by 4.058 million persons.

    2. In the first quarter of this year, the total wages of employees in the nationwide urban town was 447.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year rise of 16.4%. The average wage of employees was 4057 yuan, up 14.9%. Especially, that in the state-owned entities was 4218 yuan, up 14.7%; that in the collective-owned entities was 2397 yuan, up 13.4%; that in other entities was 4168 yuan, up 14.1%.

    Among the state economic entities, the average wages in the information transmission and computer services and soft industry were highest, the average wages in the cultural, sports and entertainment industries went up most fast. The top five industries by average wage were the information transmission, computer services and soft services with the average wage of 6300 yuan, finance with the average wage of 6038 yuan, scientific research, technical service and geological prospecting industries, cultural, sports and entertainment industry with the average wage of 5416 yuan, and production and supply of electricity, fuel gas and water with the average wage of 5208 yuan. The five industries with the fast growth in the average wage were the cultural, sports and entertainment(up 20.5%), finance(up 18.8%), public administration and social organizations(up 16.1%), wholesale and retail trade(up 15.8%) and the production and supply of electricity, fuel gas and water(up 15.2%).
