From January to May, the total retail sales of social consumer goods reached 17,168.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 1.5 percent. Among them, the retail sales of consumer goods other than automobiles reached 15,509.5 billion yuan, down 0.5 percent.
In May, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 3,354.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 6.7 percent. Among them, the retail sales of consumer goods other than automobiles were 3,036.1 billion yuan, down 5.6 percent.
From January to May, the retail sales of urban consumer goods reached 14,913.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 1.6 percent; the retail sales of rural consumer goods reached 2,255.5 billion yuan, down 1.0 percent. In May, the retail sales of urban consumer goods reached 2,920.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 6.7 percent; and the retail sales of rural consumer goods reached 434.2 billion yuan, down 6.3 percent.
By consumption type, from January to May, the retail sales of commodities reached 15,541.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.7 percent; catering revenue was 1,627.4 billion yuan, down 8.5 percent. In May, the retail sales of commodities reached 3,053.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 5.0 percent; and catering revenue was 301.2 billion yuan, down 21.1 percent.
From January to May, the retail sales of supermarkets, convenience stores and professional stores in retail units above designated size increased by 4.0, 4.7 and 1.2 percent respectively year-on-year, while department stores and specialty stores decreased by 10.3 and 7.6 percent respectively.
From January to May, the national online retail sales reached 4,960.4 billion yuan, an increase of 2.9 percent year on year. Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods reached 4,271.8 billion yuan, an increase of 5.6 percent, accounting for 24.9 percent of the total retail sales of social consumer goods; among the online retail sales of physical goods, food and consumer goods increased by 16.0 and 6.3 percent respectively, while clothing decreased by 1.6 percent.
